What is Schema?
Schema is knowledge that you already have or what you already know. Schema is a word that we use at Camden everyday! In our schema we store things that we have already learned and keep them their for future references. Our schema can grow and develop everyday. Our schema can grow by learning new things. We can also apply the schema that we already have to new ideas and strategies, "Building our Schema".
What Schema do we already have in Kindergarten?
Reading Schema:
As Kindergarteners, our reading schema is now full of popcorn words, how to use picture clues, and the steps on how to read a story. We know how to use popcorn words in our reading to help us to understand a story. We also know how to read the pictures in a story to help us to understand what is happening. We know that the steps to reading a story are to 1. read the pictures 2. read the words 3. Retell the story.

Writing Schema:
As Kindergarteners, our writing schema has information about how to make a words with sounds that we know, how to keep a space in between our words, and how our words can make a sentence. We know the letter sounds of the alphabet and we use the sounds that are in our schema to help us to make a word. We also know how to spell our popcorn words when we are writing! We use the space man to help us to remember to make a space in between our words so that the reader knows when the word starts and when the word ends. This will help my reader to read the words that I have written. We are learning how the words that we write can be put together to create a sentence. Our sentences that we write match the pictures that we draw to tell a story!

Science/Social Studies Schema:
As a Kindergartener, we have alot of schema in science and social studies. We had a caterpillar friend come into our room and show us how a caterpillar can transform into a butterfly! We know the steps to this process and we were able to see it happen! We also love to learn about animals and living things. We know what a living organism needs in order to survive. We know that humans, animals and plants are living things and they must have food, water, shelter and air so that they can survive.
